Prayers (Exam)

Lord,

it seems as though our lives are one test after another,
weighing us in somebody’s balance.

Save us from taking the coming tests
too seriously or too lightly,
but grant that we may reflect
the best of the work we’ve done
and the best of the teaching we’ve received. . . .

John W. Vannorsdall
Notre Dame Prayer Book

Dear Lord,

Sometimes I feel a little strange praying to you because of an exam. It doesn’t really seem all that significant when you consider the “big picture.” But right now, the test looms so large that it is all I can see before me.

I pray to you for three things:
- the strength to handle the pressure that I feel,
- the confidence to feel secure in my knowledge and preparation,
- and the ability to keep an appropriate perspective on it all.

Help me to keep in mind what is really important, even as I focus all of my time and energy on this test in the immediate future. Amen.

Dear God,
Today I will have my examinations.
You know how important they are to me.
So I am humbly asking Your gracious help and divine assistance.
I pray to you,
my dear God,
please never let me be at ease and give my very best.
Please never let me guess nor rely on pure luck,
but enlighten my mind and let me think clearly.
Please never let me resort to chances nor to dishonesty,
but let me work to the fullest of my ability.
I pray for Your guidance that i as i think,
I may find the right solutions,
I may be able to correctly answer the questions,
I may solve those difficult problems.
I ask, O God, Your intercession,
that as I write,
I may not be careless nor overconfident,
I may not be distracted but be more concentrated,
I may not be in a hurry nor take the exams too lightly.
Today, O my Lord,
I will take my examinations.
Let me, with Your help,
give my best effort.
Let me, because of You,
receive the best and fruitful results.
This I pray in Jesus name. Amen.

A Prayer Before Exams

Loving Father,
Source of all wisdom,
help me to use my time
and my intelligence wisely
as I prepare for my exams.

Help me to dispose myself
to listen to Your Holy Spirit,
so that You, as my Loving Father,
may place me in a state of prayer
and lead me to understand
that the supreme wisdom
is knowing I am Your child.

Help me to remain serene
so that my work may truly reflect
this profound truth.

Mary, Mother of my spiritual life,
guide me in the ways of your Son,
so that my work may help
to transform this world for His glory.
Amen.

(Adapted from a prayer card distributed by the Newman Catholic Center at Baruch College, New York City)

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself,
and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean
that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this,
you will lead me by the right road
though I may now nothing about it.
Therefore, I will trust you always.
though I may seem to be lost
and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear,
for you are ever with me
and will never leave me
to face my perils alone.

Morning Prayer

Lord Jesus,
I give you my hands to do your work
I give you my feet to go your way.
I give you my eyes to see as you do.
I give you my tongue to speak your words.
I give you my mind that you may think in me.
I give you my spirit that you may pray in me.
Above all,
I give you my heart that you may love in me,
your Father, and all mankind.
I give you my whole self that you may grow in me,
so that it is you, Lord Jesus,
who live and work and pray in me.

Night Prayer

O God, with whom there is no darkness, but the night shines as day:
keep and defend us and all your children, we beseech you,
throughout the coming night. Renew our hearts with your
forgiveness and our bodies with untroubled sleep, that we may wake
to use more faithfully your gift of life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit, I offer myself to your work of healing,
peace and reconciliation. In my busy world bless my
silent moments. In the stillness of my heart may I find
peace within myself, peace with others and peace with you.

THIS IS WHAT LOVE IS ALL ABOUT

THIS IS WHAT LOVE IS ALL ABOUT

It was a busy morning, approximately 8:30 am, When an elderly gentleman in his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He stated that he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam it
was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, we began to engage in conversation I asked him if he had a doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.
I then inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for awhile and that she was a victim of Alzheimer Disease.

As we talked, and I finished dressing his wound, I asked if she would be worried if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him. "And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?" He smiled as he patted my hand and said. "She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is."

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, "That is the kind of love I want in my life."

True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

a murder miracle in Egypt.

Muslim man in Egypt killed his wife and then buried her with their infant baby and 8-year old daughter. The girls were buried alive!

He then reported to the police that an uncle killed the kids. 15 days later, another family member died. When they went to bury him, they found the two little girls under the sand - ALIVE!

The country is outraged over the incident, and the man will be executed. The older girl was asked how she had survived.

"A man wearing shiny white clothes, with bleeding wounds in his hands, came every day to feed us. He woke up my mom so she could nurse my sister," she said.

She was interviewed on Egyptian national TV, by a veiled Muslim woman news anchor. She said on public TV, "This was none other than Jesus, because nobody else does things like this!"

Muslims believe Isa (Jesus) would do this, but the wounds mean He really was crucified, and it's clear also that He is alive! However, it's also clear that the child could not make up a story like this, and there is no way these children could have survived without a true miracle. Muslim leaders are going to have a hard time to figure out what to do with this, and the popularity of the Passion movie doesn't help!

With Egypt at the centre of the media and education in the Middle East, you can be sure this story will spread. Christ is still turning the world upside down!
Please let this story be shared, because the Lord says :

"I will bless the person who puts his trust in me."

How to Tell the Sex of a Fly

[]

A woman walked into the kitchen to find her

Husband stalking around with a fly swatter

"What are you doing?"

She asked.

"Hunting Flies"

He responded.

"Oh. ! Killing any?"

She asked.

"Yep, 3 males, 2 Females," he replied.

[]

Intrigued, she asked.

"How can you tell them apart?"

He responded,

"3 were on a beer can,

2 were on the phone.

Spelling to get into Heaven

A woman arrived at the Gates of Heaven. While she was waiting for Saint Peter to greet her, she peeked through the gates.

She saw a beautiful banquet table. Sitting all around were her parents and all the other people she had loved and who had died before her. They saw her and began calling greetings to her "Hello - How are you! We've been waiting for you! Good to see you."

When Saint Peter came by, the woman said to him, "This is such a wonderful place! How do I get in?" "You have to spell a word," Saint Peter told her.

"Which word?" the woman asked.

"Love."

The woman correctly spelled "Love" and Saint Peter welcomed her into Heaven.

About a year later, Saint Peter came to the woman and asked her to watch the Gates of Heaven for him that day.

While the woman was guarding the Gates of Heaven, her husband arrived. "I'm surprised to see you," the woman said. "How have you been?"

"Oh, I've been doing pretty well since you died," her husband told her. "I married the beautiful young nurse who took care of you while you were ill. And then I won the multi-state lottery. I sold the little house you and I lived in and bought a huge mansion. And my wife and I traveled all around the world. We were on vacation in Cancun and I went water skiing today. I fell and hit my head, and here I am. What a bummer! How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," the woman told him.

"Which word?" her husband asked.

"
Czechoslovakia
"

Moral of the story: Never make a woman angry... There will be Hell to pay later.

The BUM

You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats
those who can do nothing for him.
James D. Miles

Everyone respects and helps the millionaire, the famous, the boss,
those with beauty and brains.

What about the bum on the street?

This is a real story. It happened to me, the writer of
MountainWings. com.

I was parked in front of the church cleaning out my Jeep.
I was waiting on someone.

Coming my way from across the street was what society would
consider a bum.

From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes,
and no money. There are times when you feel generous but there
are other times that you just don't want to be bothered.

This was one of those "don't want to be bothered times."

"I hope he doesn't ask me for any money," I thought.

He didn't.

He came and sat on the wall in front of the bus stop to wait on
the bus.

After a few minutes he spoke.

"That's a very pretty Jeep," he said.

He was ragged but he had an air of dignity around him. His
scraggly blond beard keep more than his face warm. I said,
"thanks," and continued cleaning out the Jeep.

He sat there quietly as I worked. The expected plea for money
never came.

As the silence between us widened something inside said,
"ask him if he needs any help."

I was sure that he would say "yes" but I held true to the inner
voice.

"Do you need any help?" I asked.

He answered in three simple but profound words that I shall
never forget.

We often look for wisdom in great men and women. We expect it
from those of higher learning and accomplishments. I expected
nothing but an outstretched grimy hand.

He spoke the three words that shook me.

"Don't we all?" he said.

I was feeling high and mighty, successful and important, above a
bum in the street, until those three words hit me like a twelve
gauge shotgun.

Don't we all?

I needed help. Maybe not for bus fare or a place to sleep, but
I needed help.

I reached in my wallet and gave him not only enough for bus
fare, but enough to take a cab anywhere in the city and get food
and shelter for the day.

Those three little words still ring true.

No matter how much you have, no matter how much you have
accomplished, you need help too.

No matter how little you have, no matter how loaded you are with
problems, even without money or a place to sleep, you can give
help.

Even if it's just a compliment, you can give that.

You never know when you may see someone who appears to have it
all. They are waiting on you to give them what they don't have.
A different perspective on life, a glimpse at something
beautiful, a respite from daily chaos, that only you through a
torn world can see.

Maybe the man was just a homeless stranger wandering the
streets.

Maybe he was more than that.

Maybe he was sent by a power that is great and wise,
to minister to a soul too comfortable in themselves.

Maybe God looked down, called an Angel, dressed him like a bum,
then said, "go minister to that man cleaning the Jeep, that man
needs help."

Don't we all?
